Weekend Getaways from the Bay Area

The San Francisco Bay Area has plenty to offer: the exciting city of San Francisco, charming towns surrounding the Bay, and beautiful nature preserves. You never have to leave the area to get the best of nature and urban life! However, there are plenty of other things to see and do outside of the Bay; here are some fun weekend trips to inspire your next weekend getaway.

Weekend Getaways from the Bay Area

Napa/Sonoma

Napa Valley is one of the most famous wine regions (and one of the most beautiful places!) in the world. It is located just north of San Francisco and is a great place for a day trip or a fun weekend. The area has many charming towns, like Yountville, Calistoga, and St. Helena.

Napa isn’t all about wine: the area also has great hiking, biking, golfing, and even fishing along the Napa River. You can also take the Napa Wine Train to get a unique view of the vineyards; for an exceptional view, consider taking a hot air balloon ride!

Of course, an area so famous for wine also has incredible restaurants. Many of the wineries have their own restaurants; there are also world-class five-star restaurants, casual eateries, and delicious delis serving the best of the area’s local produce.

Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is the name of a lake between California and Nevada. It is also the name of the region, which is typically split into two main parts: North Shore and South Shore.

No matter the time of year, Lake Tahoe is beautiful. In the summer, it’s an excellent place for hiking, camping, and of course water sports on its crystal-clear lake. In the winter, the snow-filled mountain slopes are perfect for skiing and snowboarding. In the spring and summer, the region is great for hiking and enjoying nature. Stay in a hotel or in a cute cabin, and enjoy the fresh air and the smell of pine trees!

Monterey/Carmel

Monterey is a city on the Monterey Bay, which is just south of San Francisco. The area is rich in California history and is known for its beautiful coastline, its world-famous aquarium, and the seafood served on Fisherman’s Wharf. Stroll along the wharf, enjoy some local fried calamari, and try some local wines if you’re over 21. No matter your age, don’t miss the incredible Monterey Bay Aquarium and its cute sea otters!

Santa Cruz

Santa Cruz is close to the Monterey Bay. It is famous for its Boardwalk, which has shops, arcades, and even a roller coaster! The area is also famous for its redwood trees and natural spaces. In Santa Cruz, you can enjoy the beach, enjoy the forest, and enjoy an amusement park all in one day. It has the best of many worlds.

Santa Barbara

Santa Barbara is a small city located about 2 hours south of San Francisco. Although Hollywood is famous for its celebrities, many actors also live there, in the beautiful hills above the Pacific Ocean. (Even Oprah lives there!) Santa Barbara has a beautiful port, stunning beaches, excellent restaurants, and fabulous wines. A weekend spent there is a relaxing weekend with a little luxury.
