Is English a beautiful language? We think so! Some of these words in English are often voted the “most beautiful words” because of the way they sound (or how they look when you write them). Which of these words do you know?

Clue

Definition: A piece of evidence or information used in the detection of a crime or solving of a mystery.

Example: There were a lot of clues throughout the movie to show who the murderer was, but I didn’t see these clues the first time I watched it!

Epiphany

Definition: An experience of a sudden realization.

Example: Standing on the mountain, she had an epiphany that changed her life: she didn’t HAVE to study business; she could study business and art and fulfill both of her dreams.

Ethereal

Definition: Extremely delicate and light in a way that seems too perfect for this world.

Example: The lemon cake was delicious: it was light and almost ethereal!

Ineffable

Definition: Too great or extreme to be expressed or described in words.

Example: My experience volunteering was ineffable: I learned so much about myself and truly enjoyed giving to those who are in need.

Iridescent

Definition: Showing luminous colors that seem to change when seen from different angles.

Example: I love the iridescent lights at this coffee shop; it’s such a fun place to study.

Pastoral

Definition: Associated with country life.

Example: I love this pastoral painting. It’s so peaceful.
