IEC Student of the Week – Yuka!

IEC@DVC is proud to select Yuka Hirata as our Student of the Week. Yuka is a part of our group of students from the University of Nagasaki. We love that she takes part in* many activities (such as our recent trip to Alcatraz)! Congratulations, Yuka, for your recognition. Let’s learn a little about this special student!

*takes part in = a phrasal verb meaning “to participate”

Q: Where are you from?

A:  I am from Japan.

Q: Which level of IEC class are you in?

A: I do not know because I joined the class as “Nagasaki Group.”

Q: Do you want to transfer to DVC?
A: Yes, If I can stay in the United States more longer.

Q: What is your dream school and what would you like to study there?
A:  In the university of Nagasaki. My major is Japanese history, so I want to study American history and compare with Japanese.

Q: Who was your childhood hero/model? What about now?

A: My childhood hero was Black Jack. (Japanese manga which is written by Osamu Tezuka)

Q: What was your favorite IEC activity?

A: Alcatraz tour was the best activity ever. I am really looking forward to go to Lake Tahoe.

Q: Name ONE food you would eat if you had to eat it for the rest of your life?

A: French Fries.

Q: What do you miss about your home country?

A: Hot Spring!! Japanese people like to take a bath, hahah.

Q: If you were gifted $1M today, what’s the first thing you would do?

A: I want to buy cars (Subaru Impreza WRX STI and NISSAN GT-R). These cars were appeared in the movie “Fast and Furious Series”
